Personal Computer Support From Marc Fowler

I solve most computer-related issues in the following three ways:

Remote Support Over The Telephone

Marc Fowler using Remote Support

Before the pandemic, I spent the majority of my working time in customers’ homes and workplaces. Since Covid-19 forced us to do so many things differently, most of my work is now carried out over the phone. This has been made possible thanks to remote support (or remote access) software.

I’ve been using an excellent system called ConnectWise Control. It’s similar to other big names like TeamViewer and LogMeIn.

Remote support may well be a new concept to you. Many of my customers have never used it before, so I am sure you will have some questions. I will answer some here, but please do ask me anything about it. Quite rightly, many people have concerns due to experiencing scams in the past. You should only ever let somebody remotely access your computer if you know them personally and trust them, or are absolutely certain they are working as a support agent for the company you sought help from.

Remote Support Questions Answered

What is Remote Support?

Remote Support, also known as Remote Access, is a way for people like me to work on and solve computer issues without being physically in front of the machine.

How does Remote Support work?

It relies on installing a small piece of software on your computer. Once running, provided the computer is connected to the internet, your technician would be able to see your entire screen and operate the computer. This software can then be removed from the computer once the work is completed. Some technicians like to leave it running so they can access your computer easily in future. My approach is different. I will always make sure the software is properly closed so that reconnecting is impossible without action on your part.

Is it safe?

In the right hands, yes. It can be abused, so only ever let somebody remotely access your computer if you know them personally and trust them, or are absolutely certain they are working as a support agent for the company you sought help from. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, and make sure you have a way of stopping it. If you ever get uncomfortable with what someone is doing remotely, you should have a way to stop the session. If you cannot see one, turn your internet off and seek help.

Remote laptop support After experiencing a data corruption on our home laptop and fearing issues also with our back-up drives, I chose to contact Marc for help because of the quality of the information presented on his website. Marc responded promptly, remote access was arranged - our first experience of this and Marc's support provided yesterday was spot on and all our problems were resolved. My Wife and I were impressed with Marc's communication skills and the practical support provided, which was clearly explained step by step as we worked our way through the issues. Also have to add that our first experience of remote access worked brilliantly. Cannot rate our experience highly enough. If you need pc support, Marc is your man! With grateful thanks, Paulette & David Phillips

Excellent reliable assistance. Over several years Marc has been helping with various problems for me who is not too clever with computers. At first with visits to the house and during lockdowns he has been able to sort out any problems remotely.

Marc has been supporting me ever since I moved into the area. He has been particually patient with me ( a pre computer generation) during lookdown and helping to set up both a new laptop, and a new print remotely - not an easy task when your client is deaf. Thanks Mark

Being of an age to put me into the early mouse adopter group or GenWin-3.0, I aim to keep my machine slimmed down to the ‘essentials’ I can handle confidently while still doing quality work and keeping connected to the world. It’s all too easy to get swamped with rubbish applications, links and fixes that turn out to be disappointing, costly or even dangerous. That’s where Marc fits in. He comes in, remotely of course (Co2 friendly), about every quarter and gives my machine a good dust and brush-up. He gets rid of all the rubbish, malware, corruptions and duplicates that have built up without me noticing and leaves my machine, in tip-top running order. Sparkling !!

Professional Marc's computer service, both in person, and our online connection and service, has always been professional, and a continuous education for me, about the many aspects regarding correct computer usage. I recommend his outstanding and professional service, to computer users in my contact circle, who have computer concerns.
